Tour de Popeye Century Ride (New Date)
October 3 @ 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Starting Location: Waterloo, IL Walmart parking lot
Time of Departure: 7:30 AM Moving ride to Saturday for the southerly tailwind for the return.
Description: This is a No Drop Century ride (100 miles) to Chester, Illinois and back to see the Popeye statue. There will be a lot of flat riding but there is also a climbing component when we return from Chester and via Fults Road to Kaskaskia Road up towards Waterloo.
We will have a SAG wagon to SAG you if you breakdown beyond repair or get tired. Our SAG wagon will be able to haul your extra snacks and drinks in a cooler along on the ride. A pump and some tools, tires, etc. will be available in case of a blow out or mechanical issue. You will also be able to store any cooler weather clothing, worn in the morning, in the SAG. We will maintain a 14 – 15 mile average to keep the group together. No one will be dropped.
Special Considerations during this time:
- Social distancing of 6 ft.
- Bring mask to wear if requested. You need a mask for the Market in Prairie and restaurant.
- Stay home if you feel ill or have been exposed to Coronavirus.
- Stay home if you feel you would be exposed to Covid-19 by STLRC cyclists.
- I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge.
- Go right at Exit #6 towards Columbia/Hwy 3 south.
- Go for 9.1 miles to HH Road.
- Turn right on HH towards Walmart.
- Turn left at first street and then right into Walmart parking lot.

Experience Level: 5Cb 100 miles (13 – 15 mph Century pace)
Stops: Official Rest Stops – 1. Maeystown Village Park – Restrooms
2. Prairie Du Rocher – Myers Korner Market – Food & drinks – Park restrooms are open close by off of Henry St.
Myers Market rules: Don’t lean bikes up on their windows. No bike cleats allowed in the store. No Debit card purchases under $5. Might bring a little cash or combine an order with someone else if just purchasing drinks.
3. Chester, IL – Lunch – St. Nicholas Landmark Restaurant – outdoor dining/rest rooms
Rest Rooms at Popeye Statue also. The opportunities to get Gatorade or Powerade are limited in Chester. Might be a good idea to purchase a bottle in Prairie and pack it along in a small back pack.
4. Heading back to Prairie du Rocher – Myers Korner Market – Food & drinks – Park restrooms are open in the City park
There will be some unofficial SAG stops along the way too.
Unofficial Rest Stops – As needed. Good idea to pack some toilet paper in your kit for those long stretches without any toilet facilities.
Road Hazards: Small patch of Chip seal on Moore Street, behind Walmart in Waterloo, approx. .15 long. Please make sure your bicycle and tires are in excellent condition for this ride. Bring a couple of extra tubes and rain gear to put in the van. Temps will be between the high 50s at the start to the mid 60s during the day. Might need a light cycling jacket, arm warmers, etc. Hydrate the day before. Bring 2 bottles or a Camelbak of electrolyte drinks and snacks along on the ride.
Weather Considerations: The ride will be cancelled and rescheduled if it’s raining or a high percentage of rain or high winds are forecasted. Watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. Contact ride leader with questions.
