All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Starting Location: Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL

Time of Departure:     8:30 AM

Description:  Rolling ride through pleasant, southern Illinois back roads riding through Millstadt on our way to Belleville as our rest destination.   Mileage option is 41 or 48.7 miles.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Speed – 15 to 17 mph Average 1st Flight and if there is a 2nd Flight 13-15 mph avg. Many times there are stretches where speeds will increase. Drafting – Yes   Distance – 41 or 48.7 miles.  Ride leaders want to do the 48.7 mile route.  Elevation: 1509′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills and some long grades.

2nd Flight:  Tim & Patti Brumleve are leading a 2nd Flight at a reduced pace or distance or both, on this ride.

Directions: 

  • From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
  • Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
  • Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
  • Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.
  • We usually park out away from the Pediatric Dentistry storefront.

Cue Sheet:  Columbia – Centerville – Millstadt – Park – Belleville Circle K – Zingg or Imbs 

Please print a copy if you want one.  Ride Leaders bring a couple of extra copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.

Stops: 1st Stop – Circle-K Millstadt and then on to the Belleville Circle-K on Centreville & Dintelman

Road Hazards: Centerville has holes and loose rock on it.

Weather Considerations:   Start time temps will be 61 degrees with a North 7 mph wind.  The ride will be canceled if it’s raining at departing time or high percentage of rain forecasted, too windy, or too cold. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. Contact ride leader with questions.
