New Town to Calhoun Co., IL

All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.
Ride leaders have the responsibility to exclude riders who in their judgement are not in compliance with Club rules or not suited to participate.
Starting Location: Marsala’s Market – New Town. Parking just north of Rue Royale Street across from Marsalas.
Assembly Time: 8:10 AM
Departure Time: 8:30 AM
Description: Riding from Marsala’s in New Town to Calhoun County, IL. We take the Golden Eagle Ferry so don’t forget to bring $10 (cash only) for that.
Ride Leader’s Expectations & Objectives: Speed: 13.5 – 14.5 mph Average. There are stretches where speeds will be greater. Distance – 44, 50 or 52 miles or even add a loop from Batchtown north for an easier and scenic west – east crossing. Team decision on distance at the start and at the rest stop at AJ’s in Brussells. The ride leader intends to ride around 50 miles. Elevation: 1832′ to 2100′ of climbing.
Special Considerations: Be prepared for cold, windy conditions.
Directions to start from I-270:
- From I-270 Take Hwy 370 North to St. Charles
- After 7.2 miles take Exit 5 and go east on New Town Boulevard
- After 2.5 miles turn right to W. Canal street
- Continue on Canal St 0.6 miles to Arpent St.
- Turn right then left at Rue Royale St.
- Go Left on Civic Circle and park just north of Marsala’s.

Stops: Rest/Food at AJ’s in Brussells. Good hamburgers and breakfast sandwiches.
Road Hazards: Short sharp hill off the ferry so be in low gear before setting off.
Weather Considerations: The ride will be canceled if it’s raining at the start time or if the forecast looks sketchy. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar and check the Posting in the morning.
