Participation in STLRC Rides & Hikes is at your own risk. STLRC assumes no liability.

All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Ride leaders have the right to exclude riders who in their judgement are not in compliance with Club rules or not suited to participate.

Starting Location:  Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL

Time of Departure:       9:00 AM

Description:  Riding to visit Freeburg, IL over quiet country roads. Sorry, No short route.

Ride Leader Expectations:   Final Speed – 1st Flight – 15 to 17 mph average,  If there is a 2nd Flight – 14 to 15 mph average Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride.  Distance – 54.1   Climbing Elevation: 1891′  of climbing. This ride has mild hills.  Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 4.5 hours.

2nd Flight:  If anyone else wants to lead a 2nd flight at a more moderate pace on this ride, please contact the ride leader if interested.

Directions:

  • From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
  • Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
  • Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
  • Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.

Cue Sheet:  Columbia – Gall – Coxeyville – Brenner – Freeburg Casey’s – Cherry

Please print a copy if you want one. Print cue sheet on two sides. Part of the return is on the back. Ride Leaders have minimal copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.

Experience Level:  4Bd

Stops:  Re-group stops as needed to stay together.  Main Rest/Food stop in Freeburg at the Casey’s on Hwy 15. Rest rooms in Millstadt at Circle-K on the return.

Road Hazards:   Might be a spot of chip seal that I don’t know about.

Weather Considerations: The ride will be canceled if: It’s raining or there is a high percentage prediction of rain, too cold or high winds.
