Columbia – Waterloo – New Valmeyer – Levee w/2nd Flight

Starting Location: Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL
Time of Departure: 9:30 AM
Description: Riding through the rolling back roads to visit Waterloo on our way to New Valmeyer, IL. Return will be on the levee roads with a nice tailwind. Ride Leader plans to ride the 50.8 mile route and take advantage of the southerly tailwind for a quick return.
2nd Flight: Leslie McCormick is leading a 2nd flight on this ride at a more moderate pace and possibly distance also.
Ride Leader Expectations – Final Speed – 15 to 17 mph Avg. 1st Flight. If there is 2nd Flight – 13 to 15 mph Average. We will cruise, at times, between 16-20 mph. Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride. Distance 47.6 to 50.8 miles – Ride Leader plans on the 50.8 mile route. Climbing Elevation: 1410′ to 1475′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills and the short, steep climb up D Road at the very start. Riding time: Approx. 3.5+ hours, time on course 4 hours.
Directions:
From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.
Cue Sheet: Columbia – D Rd – HH Rd – Waterloo – G Rd – New Valmeyer – Levee
All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.
Print a cue sheet if you want one. Ride Leaders will have just a few.
Pro Tip: Download all navigation routes to your cycling GPS devices in case you have to switch routes because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Stops: Several to re-group. #1 Rest Room stop in Waterloo at the Mobil OTR on Hwy 3 & Country Club. #2 Rest/Food stop in New Valmeyer at the Mike’s Service Convenience store Cedar Bluff & Meyer Roads.
Road Hazards: None that I know of. Trying to avoid the recent chipseal.
Weather Considerations: The ride will be canceled if: It’s raining or there is a high percentage prediction of rain, too cold or high winds.
