All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Ride leaders have the right to exclude riders who in their judgement are not in compliance or not suited to participate.

Starting Location:  Schnuck’s Market Place, Columbia, IL

Assembly Time:  8:10 AM

Departure Time:  8:30 AM

Description: Riding on rolling hills from Columbia for 13 miles to New Valmeyer the on the flats back to Columbia.

Expectations:  Speed: 13.5 – 14.5 mph Average.  There are stretches where speeds will be greater. Distance – 41 miles.    Elevation: 1300 feet of climbing including a couple of steep hills.

Special Considerations:  Temperatures will range from the mid 40’s to low 60’s. Bringing sunscreen and hydration is essential. .

Driving Directions:

  • From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
  • Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
  • Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
  • Turn right into the Schnuck’s Market Place parking lot.

Stops:  Regrouping / hydration stops. Snack break / rest stop at Mikes Service in Valmeyer

Weather Considerations:  At the time of posting, winds are forecast to be over 10mph with a promise of a homeward bound tailwind (not guaranteed – this is winter). The ride will be canceled if it’s raining at the start time or if the forecast looks sketchy. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar and check this Posting in the morning.
