All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Starting Location: Waterloo, IL Walmart parking lot

Time of Departure:   9:00 AM

Description:  Riding to New Athens, Illinois and back. Options for 46 to 52 miles. Ride Leaders are planning on riding the 46 mile route.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Final Speed – 14 to 15 mph average and 12 to 13+ mph average if we have a 2nd Flight.  We will cruise at times at 16-20 mph. Many times there are stretches where speeds will increase. Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride.  Distance: 46 to 52 miles.  Climbing Elevation: Approx. 1310′ to 1553′ of climbing depending on route. This ride has rolling hills and some long grades.  Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 4.5 hours

2nd Flight:  If anyone is interested in leading a 2nd Flight on this ride, please contact the posting ride leader.

Directions:

  • I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge.
  • Go right at Exit #6 towards Columbia/Hwy 3 south.
  • Go for 9.1 miles to HH Road.
  • Turn right on HH towards Walmart.
  • Turn left at first street and then right into Walmart parking lot.

Please print a copy if you want one. Print on both sides to get the long route.  Ride Leaders have minimal copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.

Stops:  On the all Routes – #1 Rest Stop  New Athens Casey’s and on the medium and long routes #2  Rest Stop – in Smithton at Casey’s.
