All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Starting Location: Waterloo, IL Walmart parking lot

Time of Departure:   9:00 AM  

Description:  Scenic ride to Red Bud with rolling hills and low traffic roadways.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Looks like the peach of the week. They are predicting snow for Thursday and lots of unsettled weather this week. Final Speed – 15 to 17 mph average and a slightly lower average speed if there is a 2nd flight.  Many times there are stretches where speeds will increase. Drafting – Yes  Distance – 50.5 miles – Sorry, no short return.  Climbing Elevation: 2075′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills and some long grades.  Riding time: Approx. 3.5+ hours, time on course 4 hours.

2nd Flight:  Sue DiPiano is leading a 2nd flight at a more moderate pace on this ride.

Directions:

  • I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge.
  • Go right at Exit #6 towards Columbia/Hwy 3 south.
  • Go for 9.1 miles to HH Road.
  • Turn right on HH towards Walmart.
  • Turn left at first street and then right into Walmart parking lot.

Please print a copy if you want one.  Ride Leaders have minimal copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link.  All riders should be able to navigate back to the start on their own if something unforeseen happens.

Stops: Several re-group stops to keep the group together. #1 Main Rest Stop in Red Bud at Casey’s  – Hwy 3 & Shiloh Dr. #2 Optional Rest Rooms – Circle-K @Market St in Waterloo.

Road Hazards:  Might be a spot or two of chip seal out there.

Weather concerns: Expect a 12 mph SW wind. Should be a nice tailwind for most of our return. Ride will be canceled if it’s raining or if excessively windy, too hot/Cold or if a large weather front is moving in. We won’t start in the rain.  Please watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. Contact ride leader with questions.
