All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Starting Location:  Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL

Time of Departure:       8:00 AM

Description:  Riding via Waterloo down the back roads to New Valmeyer, IL then home on the Levee Road.  Trying to beat the rain predicted for late afternoon with the early start.

2nd Flight: If anyone would like to lead a 2nd Flight on this ride, please contact me and I’ll post it as such.

Ride Leader Expectations – Final Speed – 14 to 15+mph Avg. 1st Flight. Return with the tailwind may be faster than posted average.  If there is 2nd Flight – 13 to 14+ mph Average.    Distance:  45.7 or 49.1  miles.  Decision made at the rest stop in Valmeyer.  Climbing Elevation:  1300 ft of climbing.  This ride has some hills at the start and a flat return. Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 4.5 hours.


From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.

Cue Sheet:  Columbia – Waterloo – Madonnaville – Valmeyer – Levee Road 45.7 & 49.1

All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link.  Riders should be able to find their way back if an unforeseeable event happens during this ride.

Please print a cue sheet if you can.  Ride Leaders will have limited extra copies.

Stops:  Several pauses to re-group.  Convenience stop if needed at mile 11 in Waterloo and a Rest/Food stop at mile 29 in New Valmeyer at the Mike’s Service Convenience store.

Road Hazards: None known at the time of posting.

Expected Weather Considerations:  Winds speed is predicted to be 12+ mph from the south so the return will be sweet!
