Participation in STLRC Rides & Hikes is at your own risk. STLRC assumes no liability.

All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

For the safety and enjoyment of participants, Ride leaders have the responsibility to exclude riders who in their judgement are not in compliance with Club rules or are not suited to participate.

Starting Location: Waterloo, IL Walmart parking lot

Assembly time: 9:10 AM

Time of Departure:   9:30 AM

Description:  Riding to Valmeyer from the Waterloo Walmart on the flats and returning via Deer Hill. Distance – 40 miles.  Climbing Elevation: 1500′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills and one 2-mile, moderate climb.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  It will be a little windy going down to Valmeyer but we’ll have a decent tailwind for our return. Final Speed –  13 to 14 mph Average.  We will cruise sometimes at 16-18 mph. Many times there are stretches where speeds will increase.    Riding time: Approx. 4 hours, time on course 4.5 hours. A don’t drop the Leader ride.

Directions:

  • I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge.
  • Go right at Exit #6 towards Columbia/Hwy 3 south.
  • Go for 9.1 miles to HH Road.
  • Turn right on HH towards Walmart.
  • Turn left at first street and then right into Walmart parking lot.

Cue Sheet:   Waterloo – Hanover – B Rd – Valmeyer – Deerhill 40.2

Please print a copy.  Ride Leaders have minimal copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.

Stops: Re-grouping stops as needed to stay together.  One rest stop in Valmeyer at Mike’s Convenience Service Store.

Road Hazards:  None known at posting time

Weather concerns:  We won’t start in the rain, if excessively windy, or if a large weather front is moving in. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar.  Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. Contact the ride leader with questions.
