Starting Location:    New VenueWaterloo Konarcik Park   Look at the directions carefully.

Time of Departure:   8:00AM   (I may make it earlier if the temps warm up – watch the calendar)

Description:  We’re riding from Konarcik Park in Waterloo through New Athens on our way to Marissa, Illinois.  Rest Rooms available at the start at Konarcik Park.  Not planning on eating a sit down meal in Marissa as it takes too long in these small towns.  Stopping at Casey’s three times so you may want to download the app!

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Final Speed – 14 to 15 mph Average.  Sometimes cruising at 16-20 mph. Drafting – We like to work together and will be drafting on this ride.   Distance – 57 miles – Sorry, no short return – 28.5 miles out and 28.5 miles back. Climbing Elevation: 1433′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills and some long, gentle grades.  Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 5.5 hours.  

2nd Flight:  If anyone else wants to lead a 2nd flight at a more moderate pace on this ride, please contact the ride leader if interested.

Directions:

  • Take I-255 across JB Bridge to Right on Hwy 3 towards Waterloo
  • Continue on 11.5 miles on Hwy 3 to Park St (Hwy 156)
  • Left on Park St. Park St turns left and becomes Church St.
  • Follow along and it becomes 4th St.
  • Cross Market Street and continue on 4th St /Konarcik Rd. 1.4 miles to Sauthoff Dr.
  • Left on Sauthoff Dr. (Konarcik Park Ent.) .2 miles to parking area with restrooms.

Stops: #1 Rest room break at 18.9 miles at Casey’s in new Athens.  #2 Main Rest Stop in Marissa at Casey’s.  #3 Rest Room stop – Casey’s New Athens.

Road Hazards:  We’ll be riding on the 8′ wide shoulders of  Hwy 13 for several miles going to and from New Athens.  The shoulders are newer asphalt.  We’ve ridden these going to and from New Athens several times safely.

Weather concerns:  We won’t start in the rain or if excessively windy, or if a large weather front is moving in. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. Contact ride leader with questions.
