Participation in STLRC Rides & Hikes is at your own risk. STLRC assumes no liability.

All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

Starting Location: State commuter parking lot on the north side of I-70 at the St. Peters exit (exit #222).

Time of Departure:   10:00 AM                  

Description:  Scenic ride from St. Peters through the countryside of O’Fallon to Old Monroe & Back. Options for 41 to 45 miles.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Speed – 1st Flight – 14 to 15+ mph Average,  If there is a 2nd Flight 12-13 mph Average.  Drafting – There will be drafting on the 1st Flight.  Distance –  Depends on temperature. If really cold, we’ll do the shorter route.  Elevation:  1432′ on the 41.4 mile route and 1702′ of climbing  on the 45 mile route. This ride has lots of rolling hills, some long grades, and a couple of 5% uphills.  Ride Time: 3 hours – time on course 4 hours total time.

2nd Flight:  If anyone wants to lead a 2nd Flight on this ride, please let the posting ride leader know beforehand.

Directions:

  • Take I-70 W to  Exit #222 .
  • Use the middle lane to turn right onto Mid Rivers Mall Drive.
  • Quick Left turn (at signal) on Main Street.
  • Turn left into commuter parking lot across from QuikTrip.

Please print a copy if you want one.  Ride Leaders have minimal copies.  All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s  Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. If unable to, speak to the Leader before the start.

Experience Level:  4Cb – 4Cc

Stops:  Several stops to re-group and main Rest / Food stop in Old Monroe at the Phillips Fast Lane Convenience Store.

Road Hazards: The bridge on Old Hwy 79 across the Quiver River in Old Monroe is accessible but there are barriers at each end with narrow gaps. You must be cautious to get through. You’ll be able to ride over the bridge and then there is another narrow gap to get through.

Weather Considerations:  Ride will be canceled if raining, too cold/hot , high winds or a sketchy forecast at start time. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar.  Contact ride leader with questions
