St Charles – Portage 50 miles

All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.
RIDE Starting Location: Tourism Center in St. Charles.
Assemble: 7:40am
Time of Departure: 8:00am
Description: A flat half century ride to Portage des Sioux. Final average speed 14-15 mph; higher speeds for several sections.
Special Considerations: Bring lots of snacks, water, and bicycle lights.
Directions to Start Point:
From I-70
- Take 5th St Exit to St. Charles for ~0.4 miles
- Right on Boon’s Lick Road
- Left on S. Riverside Drive for 3/4 mile.
- Park behind Kilwin’s across from the Tourism Center.

Rest Stop: Snack and convenience stops at Portage (mile 27) and Smartt Field (mile 35). No opportunities to buy refreshments.
Road Hazards: While preponderance of the ride is on farmland roads, there are several interactions with heavy traffic, particularly at Hwy 94. Always watch out for traffic and please be patient at street crossings. Expect new potholes at any time.
Weather Considerations: Make sure you bring electrolyte drinks. Check the weather forecast and updates to this posting for rain and wind advisories. The ride will be canceled if adverse weather conditions are likely.
