STLRC – Upcoming Rides and Events

For STLRC Ride Leaders only:  (We may have a class for interested members later)

This is to announce a RidewithGPS familiarization class at 10AM – 12 Noon, January 27th.

As you have probably seen over the last few years,  I have been posting RidewithGPS navigation files on my ride postings and on other leader’s postings.

This makes it easy to navigate routes without following a paper cue sheet.  Much like the GPS you use in your vehicles when traveling to an unfamiliar location.

These routes and Nav files have been from my personal account.  However, the club has purchased a RidewithGPS Club Account which will enable all club members to have free access to RidewithGPS for our club routes.  It will take some time and effort to get all of our routes into the club account.  I have started to put routes in the club account as they are posted on the calendar.  It’s time consuming but definitely worth it.  Practically all bike tours and events use RidewithGPS navigation files.

What I hope to accomplish in this session:

  1. To instruct you in how to install the navigation files that are posted on the calendar rides to your GPS devices.  There are several ways, one with a USB cable and wirelessly through the RidewithGPS account which you will be invited to join for free.   I use a Garmin cycling GPS.  This is what I’m familiar with.  If you use a Wahoo or some other type, I’m sure we can figure it out.
  2. If we have time, to show you how to create routes which can be turned into STLRC rides with navigation and cue sheets in the future.

What you need to bring:    Laptop

Garmin cycling GPS device (or other device)

USB cable used to charge your device

                                                 Smartphone

Notice:  You definitely will need your laptop as that’s where the RidewithGPS program will be installed if you want to be able to link with your Smartphone.  We will be installing the Garmin Connect App on your phone.

If you are uncomfortable with this technology, then this may not be for you.  I would just like those who are really interested in applying this technology to your riding experience to attend.

Please RSVP to:  jsjcat@sbcglobal.net or 314-766-0646 if you would like to attend.

If you have questions or concerns, please call or email me.
