All rides are free for St. Louis Recreational Cyclists members. Non-members must join by their second ride.

For the enjoyment of riders, ride leaders have the responsibility to ask riders who in their judgement are not in compliance with Club rules or not suited to participate, to leave the ride.

Starting Location:  Marsala’s Market – New Town. Parking just north of Rue Royale Street across from Marsala’s.

Assembly Time:  8:40 AM Departure Time:  9:00 AM

Description: Riding from Marsala’s in New Town to Calhoun County, IL. We take the Golden Eagle Ferry – you’ll need to bring $10 (cash only) for that.

Ride Leader’s Expectations & Objectives:  Speed: 13.5 – 14.5 mph average;  there are stretches where speeds will be greater. Distance – 50 to 59 miles. Taking the Batchtown west – east crossing. Return from the rest stop at AJ’s in Brussells via Golden Eagle Road. Elevation: 1832′ to 2100′ of climbing. A ride from the Don’t-drop the-Leader series.

Special Considerations: The forecast is for a cool start then sunshine. Bring sunscreen and hydration.

Directions to start from I-270:

  • From I-270 Take Hwy 370 North to St. Charles
  • After 7.2 miles take Exit 5 and go right on New Town Blvd.
  • After 3 miles turn right on New Town Dr. (it’s where the bike path ends)
  • Straight at roundabout and Continue on New Town Ave.
  • Turn left then sharp right at Domain Street past the church.
  • Park to the left on Civic Circle (just north of Marsala’s.)

Cue Sheet: New Town – Calhoun – Salt Spring Hollow – Brussels   We are not taking the Salt Spring loop.

Experience Level: 50 – 60 miles; rolling hills with some stiff climbs; top speed less than 20mph, final average about 14mph.

Stops:  Convenience stop off the ferry; Rest/Food at AJ’s in Brussells. Good hamburgers and breakfast sandwiches.

Road Hazards: Sharp hill off the ferry so be in low gear before setting off.

Weather Considerations:  The ride will be canceled if it’s raining at the start time or if the forecast looks sketchy. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar and check the Posting in the morning.
