Millstadt to Mascoutah – Length adjusted
June 16 @ 7:00 am - 11:30 am
Participation in STLRC Rides & Hikes is at your own risk. STLRC assumes no liability.
Starting Location: Millstadt Liederkranz Park (East of Millstadt Village Park – See venue map) Park in the shade along the tree line on the west side of Main St. If the rest rooms aren’t open at this park, we’ll stop at the Circle-K on Jefferson at Washington to use the facilities.
Time of Departure: 7:00 AM It’s going to be hot today! Plan accordingly.
Description: Taking a tour to visit Mascoutah, IL. Ride distance and speed will be adjusted for temperature concerns. This ride is pretty flat with most of the elevation on Urbana Road coming in and out of Millstadt. I put a different cue sheet on this posting cutting a few corners and dropping the mileage to 46. I’m putting a bail out route from Freeburg in case we decide to not go all of the way to Mascoutah. Still gives us 34 miles. Put it in your Cycling devices just in case we bail.
Ride Leader’s Expectations: Speed and Distance: Will be adjusted for temperature concerns. Planning to ride a 46 mile route. I’ve eliminated the park tour and we’ll basically have an out & back ride due to the high temps. We may see that it’s too hot and turn around in Freeburg. Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride. Distance – To be determined by temperature. Riding time: Approx. 3.5 hours, time on course 4.5 hours.
- I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge
- Go right at Exit #6 towards Columbia/Hwy 3 south
- Go for 4.3 miles to right exit up and over Hwy 3 onto Hwy 158 towards Millstadt
- Continue onto IL-158 E for 6.0 miles
- Turn left onto N Jefferson St for .2 miles
- Turn left onto W Parkview Dr
- Liederkranz Park will be on the left
Cue Sheet: Millstadt to Mascoutah Hot Route
Print cue sheet on both sides if you want one.
Navigation .fit file: MillsMas46
MillsMas34 In case we have to turn around in Freeburg.
Experience Level: 4Bb – 4Bc
Stops: Rest stops at the Freeburg MotoMart coming and going. Rest/Food Stop in Mascoutah at the MotoMart or Subway at Main and Jefferson.
Road Hazards: Brickyard Road has some bad spots. Pay attention!
Extra Precautions: Bring plenty of electrolyte drinks, at least 2 bottles. Don’t forget your snacks and sunscreen is a must. If you feel it’s just too hot to ride, please stay home. No worries. I don’t want anyone to fall out because of the heat and you all know how your bodies react to higher temps better than me.
Weather Considerations: Distance and speed will be adjusted for rider comfort. The ride will be canceled if: It’s raining or if there is a high percentage prediction of rain, high winds, or too hot. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home.
