Starting Location:  Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL

Time of Departure:  7:30AM

Description:  Lively ride through the back roads to visit Waterloo, IL. Options for  two returns of 41, 45, or 50 miles.  Rest stop is at the 30 mile mark so plan your snack pack accordingly.

Ride Leader’s Expectations:  Final Speed – 14 – 15+ mph Average.  We will cruise at 16-18 mph but those uphills will lower averages. Many times there are stretches where speeds will increase. Drafting – We like to work together and will be drafting on this ride.   Distance – We’ll have a group vote at the rest stop to see what return we’ll use.  Climbing Elevation: 1950′ to 2200′ of climbing. This ride has rolling hills, some long grades, and a couple of sharp, short, 8 – 10% uphills. 

Varying from Ride Leader’s Expectations: If you want to vary from these objectives, please formally volunteer, before start time, to lead a section of the ride for yourself and others at the pace you desire.

Special Considerations during this time:.

  • Bring mask to wear if requested
  • Stay home if you feel ill or have been exposed to the Coronavirus.

Directions:

  • From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
  • Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
  • Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
  • Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.

Download all files into your device. We will decide at start time which one to ride.

Download the .fit file for use in your Garmin or other cycling GPS device.  To use the .fit file in your GPS cycling device: Click on the above .fit file link. The file will download to the downloads folder on your computer. Plug your Garmin into your computer with USB cable. Open the Garmin file on your device. Copy the above .fit file to the New Files folder. Unplug your device and boot it up.  When you go to the Navigation tab, the route will be in your Saved Courses.

Experience Level:   4Cb – 4Cc

Stops:  Main rest stop will be at 30 miles in Waterloo at the Mobil On-the-Run at Hwy 3 and Country Club Lane. Plan accordingly with two water bottles with electrolyte drinks and snacks.

Road Hazards:  Might be a chip sealed road out there.

Weather Considerations:  Please watch the weather forecasts.   Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home. If I cancel, it is usually at 6AM day of ride.
