STLRC – Upcoming Rides and Events

Columbia to New Valmeyer 41-44

Starting Location: Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL
Time of Departure: 9:30 AM (Could be a Polar Bear ride if temps stay low)
Description: This is a road bike ride. The roads are clear and dry. The roads look better than any subdivision in St. Louis County as of Sunday 1/12/25. We’ll ride via Deer Hill Road down to New Valmeyer, IL then home on Bluff and Levee Roads with a nice tail wind.
2nd Flight: If anyone would like to lead a 2nd Flight on this ride at a slightly reduced pace or distance, please contact me and I’ll post it as such.
Ride Leader Expectations – Final Speed – 1st Flight: 14 to 15+mph Avg. Return route with the tailwind may be faster than posted average. If there is 2nd Flight – 13 to 14+ mph Average. Distance: 41, 43.5 or 44 miles. 1st Flight ride leaders want to ride the 43.5 mile Alternate route. Climbing Elevation: 1414 ft of climbing. This ride has a few moderate hills and a flat return. Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 4.5 hours.
Directions:
From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.
Cue Sheet: Columbia to New Valmeyer 41-44
All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s Navigation files and/or Smartphone with RidewithGPS link. Riders should be able to find their way back if an unforeseeable event happens during this ride.
Please print a cue sheet if you can. Ride Leaders will have limited extra copies.

Stops: Several pauses to re-group and to rest our legs as needed. Main Rest/Food stop at mile 24.6 in New Valmeyer at the Mike’s Service Convenience store.
Road Hazards: None known at the time of posting. Always on the look out for “Black Ice” in the shady areas. There will be a lot of melting and refreezing during these winter months.
Expected Weather Considerations: Dress warmly! Low temps with a wind chill. Winds speed is predicted to be 9+ mph from the southwest. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar. Check the website for any corrections or cancellations before you leave home.
