Columbia to Freeburg

Starting Location: Schnucks Market Place Columbia, IL
Time of Departure: 9:00 AM
Description: Riding to visit Freeburg, IL over quiet country roads. Ride leader plans on riding the 50.4 mile route with the Cherry return. Centerville Road is being chip sealed on Oct. 2.
Ride Leader Expectations: Final Speed – 1st Flight – 15 to 17 mph average. If there is a 2nd Flight – Slightly reduced speed average Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride. Distance – 50.4 or 51.4 miles Climbing Elevation: 1775′ on the 50.4 mile route and 1617′ on the 51.4 mile route. This ride has mild hills. Riding time: Approx. 4+ hours, time on course 4.5 hours.
2nd Flight: If anyone else wants to lead a 2nd flight at a more moderate pace or distance on this ride, please contact the ride leader if interested.
Directions:
- From I-55 and I-255 in South St. Louis County go 6.0 miles southeast across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255.
- Exit IL Hwy 3 South, go 2.2 miles and turn right on Veterans Parkway @ McDonald’s.
- Go 0.1 mile and turn left on Columbia Center just past Regions Bank.
- Turn right into the Schnucks MarketPlace parking lot.

Please print a copy if you want one. Ride Leaders have minimal copies. All participants are expected to bring either the cue sheet, a cycling computer with the ride’s Navigation files and/or Smartphone with GPS link. Riders should be able to find their way back if an unforeseeable event happens during this ride.

Stops: Re-group stops as needed to stay together. Main Rest/Food stop in Freeburg at the MotoMart on Hwy 15. Optional Millstadt rest stop on the Cherry return.
Road Hazards: There will be a spot of chipseal on Kropp Rd.
Weather Considerations: The ride will be canceled if: It’s raining or there is a high percentage prediction of rain, too hot/cold or high winds.
