MCT Trailhead to Highland w/2nd Flight

Starting Location: Metro East Park and Recreation District Office. 104 United Drive. Collinsville, IL 62234
Time of Departure: 10:00AM
Description: Riding to Highland on a combination MCT trail and roads.
Restrooms at the start: Available behind MEPRC Building.
Ride Leader’s Expectations: For the 50 mile route: Final Speed: 14 – 15 mph Average. Sometimes we cruise between 16-20 mph. Drafting – There will be drafting on this ride. Distance – 50.5 miles. 2nd Flight at 30-35 miles available. Climbing Elevation: 1276′ of climbing. Riding time: Approx. 4 hours, time on course 4.5 hours.
2nd Flight: Randy White has volunteered to lead a 2nd flight on this ride going about 30 -35 miles. He’ll probably turn around after 15 to 17 miles and reverse back to the start. For those of you not wanting to ride the full 50 mile route. Speed will be adjusted for participating rider comfort.
Directions:
From I-255 South:
- Cross the JB Bridge on I-255, head North approx. 22.5 miles
- Take the Horseshoe Lake Road exit (exit #26).
- Turn Left (East) on Horseshoe Lake Road for 0.6 miles.
- Turn right on Freedom Drive, and then turn left, at the tee, on United Dr. (unmarked) to the Metro East Park and Recreation parking lot, directly behind Culver’s restaurant.
From I-70 East:
- exit at IL Route 157 (exit #11- Collinsville).
- North on Rt. 157 for 0.5 miles.
- Left on United Drive (the road just before Culver’s)
- Right into the Metro East Park and Recreation parking lot.
Cue Sheet: MCT Trailhead to Highland 50 Ride leaders will have minimal copies of cue sheet on hand. Please bring a copy of the cue sheet or use the navigation file with your cycling GPS device.

Stops: Several to regroup. Restrooms at Drost Park if needed. Options for rest rooms/food in Highland and St. Jacob. Optional rest rooms on the way back at Tri-Township Park.
Road Hazards: It will be cooler today. Ride starts at 36 degrees with a slight 2mph WSW wind. Dress warmly, head to toe. Temps won’t be out of the 30s until 1PM.
Weather Considerations: Ride will be canceled if raining at start time or forecasted, too windy, too cold or if the forecast looks sketchy. Please watch the weather forecasts and radar.
