Check in around 9:00 a.m. for a 9:30 start. Meet at the Route 66 State Park. MoDOT has permanently closed the Old Route 66 Bridge Bridge between the east and west halves of Route 66 State Park. SEE NEW DIRECTIONS BELOW! We are venturing on the acclaimed Route 66 for a fairly flat ride with a few hills out through Eureka and Pacific. Ride about 32 miles with options for additional mileage. Directions: West on I-44 to the Eureka exit (Exit # 264), Left or south on Hwy 109 (Hwy W) cross under I-44 and immediately turn left onto the entrance ramp for eastbound I-44. Once you're on eastbound I-44, take the very next exit for Williams Rd. (exit # 265). Then take an immediate left on the south outer road. Follow the outer road east then turn left and cross under the two Meramec River bridges. Continue until the T intersection with the main park road, turn right and go a short distance (0.2 mi) to the parking lot with restrooms. Larry Essmann will lead the 30 mile loop and Pat Cannon will lead the extended 40 mile loop. Directions: 1-270 to Manchester Road, east on Manchester for about 2 miles to Geyer Road. Left on Olive Street Rd, which becomes N. Eatherton Rd., for 2.7 miles. Turn left at the golf course sign. Where the road bends left in 0.3 mile, turn right into the second (east) church parking lot. Meet at the soccer park on Mueller road off 370 in St. Charles county at 8:30 a.m. to ride at 9:00. This ride will be lead by Joan Fromme and Larry Essmann. A flat 46 mile ride that can be shortened (at 16.1 miles cross Hiway 94 and ride directly into Portage and do not make a right onto Hwy 94 which makes the ride 33 miles) Joan will lead the 46 mile flat ride that travels to the Portage Power Plant and Larry will lead the 33 mile route. Both rides take a break at the Trading Post Store in Portage and are totally flat. After the ride we will return to our cars and drive to Sugarfire BBQ for lunch. Directions: From I-270, take I-370 west into St. Charles County, right at Elm Street / New Town exit, north on New Town Road for 0.5 mile, right on Mueller Road for 0.4 mile to the soccer fields on the right. There will be two flat routes (42 miles and 21 miles) on the outstanding MCT paved trail network, both routes starting from the Metro East Parks & Recreation Administration Building, 104 United Drive, Collinsville, Illinois 62234.
