Meet at 9:30 a.m. Leave at 10:00. This will be a leisurely 23 mile ride from 680 Bonita Ave in Webster Groves (63119), home of Dick and Joann Counce, to Forest Park and return to a pot luck lunch. Here is a MapQuest link for directions here. The Counces will furnish chicken “bratwurst” and non-alcoholic beverages. You bring a side dish, salad, appetizer or dessert to share and any special beverage for yourself. Non riders are welcome to join the group for lunch when riders return about noon. There are options for a 2-1/2 day tour and a 4-full-day tour, starting in St. Louis and cycling to either Springfield IL or Bloomington IL, returning via Amtrak. There will be no sag support, so participants will carry their clothes and necessities on their bikes, using either panniers, a backpack, or a trailer. Depart at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 9, from Arch-Laclede’s Metrolink station. Take your bicycle onto Metrolink from the station closest to your house. There is long-term parking at the Shrewsbury station, if you prefer to drive there and leave your car while on tour. Use the Metro schedule here to calculate your arrival at the Arch-Laclede’s Metrolink station by 9:30 am. Distances will be Monday – 42 miles, Tuesday – 61.5 miles, Wednesday – 49.6 miles, Thursday – 41 miles. (The 2-1/2 day tour will have distances of 42, 61.5, and 8 miles.) Information concerning accommodations, costs, and routes are linked here. Use this information to make your hotel reservations for each evening. A flat 46 mile ride that can be shortened (at 16.1 miles cross Hiway 94 and ride directly into Portage and do not make a right onto 94 which makes the ride 33 miles) will use a few roads that are not ridden often and ride to the area near the Portage Ameren Power Plant. Both rides take a break in Portage. Come help us celebrate Paul Bregitzer's 80th birthday with a flat 80+ mile ride (i.e., two loops) on the outstanding MCT paved trail network. Between the two loops, there will be a celebration time (i.e., starting approximately 11:00 - 11:15 a.m.) at the Culver's restaurant, 100 United Dr., Collinsville, Illinois.
