After exiting Forest Park to the west on Wydown, cut thru DeMun & Shaffly's, pass thru part of proposed Southwest Connector route by Deer Creek, cross I-44 at Murdoch and roll the gentle hills on Laclede Station to Grant's Trail. Directions: I-270/255 SE across the JB Bridge, exit Columbia/Hwy 3 south for 9.5 miles, right at Hwy HH for 0.1 mile, left into the Wal-Mart parking lot. Meet at the Mueller Rd. Soccer Fields at 9:00 a.m. for a 9:30 start. We will ride to Grafton IL crossing the Mississippi River on the newly reopened ferry for lunch at The Loading Dock. Ferry bike fare is $8.00 round trip. Ride may include riding on the river trail in Illinois up to Pere Marquette State Park. Meet at Old Valmeyer City Park at 8:45 am for a 9:00 departure. This is a mostly flat ride to Paririe du Rocher and back (approx. 40 miles round trip). If you want a shorter ride, you can ride to Maeystown and back (16 miles round trip). Riders who want a longer ride can decide among themselves to ride from Marketplace in Columbia to Prairie du Rocher (approx. 66 miles round trip). Directions: 1-27/255 SE across the JB Bridge, exit Columbia /Hwy passing the Marketplace to Valmeyer Road. Right on Valmeyer to Bluff Road. Left on Bluff Road into Old Valmeyer. Left on Margraphrics Road into City Park. The park is approximately 15 minutes past the Market Place in Columbia. If you get to Hwy. 156, you have passed Margraphics. Directions: I-70 west into St. Charles County, exit 5th street north for 0.2 mile, then right on Boone's Lick Road for 0.5 mile to the Boathouse parking area. Note there are no rest rooms available at the Boathouse parking area. Rest rooms are available at the Tourism Center which is located at the intersection of S. Riverside Drive and First Capitol Drive, approximately 0.5 mile from the Boathouse parking area. Options for 30, 38, 41, or 49 miles. Meet at 8:30 a.m.for a 9:00 start at the Lewis and Clark boat house parking lot for a 25 mile round trip ride on the Katy Trail to Machens and when we return we will eat at Hendricks BBQ (very good BBQ) on the trail near the parking lot. There are no services on this ride other than a toilet at Machens so bring enough water. Flat ride, no cue sheet needed. Directions: I-70 west into St. Charles County, exit 5th street north for 0.2 mile, then right on Boone's Lick Road for 0.5 mile to the Boathouse parking area. Depart at 10 a.m. from Stacy Park. Ride follows bike paths and low traffic roads thru Olivette, U City, Clayton and Forest Park to beautiful Tower Grove Park for the annual Festival of Nations. Sample delicious ethnic foods while enjoying the music and dancing of the many nations that enrich our communities before returning to Stacy Park. Directions: From I-170: West on Olive 1.5 mi to Old Bonhomme. Left on Bonhomme approx. 1/4 m to Stacy Park on your right. Bicycle for a week in the Xenia, Ohio area. Xenia is a hub for numerous rails to trails paved bicycle paths. Country road riding is also available. Susan Feldman has compiled many possible rides for us using trails and roads. Riding exclusively on the bicycle paths is also an option. A variety of rides are offered: short, long, hilly, flat, bike paths, country roads. Something for everyone. This is a week long trip but you can opt to come for part of the week. Cyclists provide their own transportation and stay in the same Ramada Inn the whole trip. Cue sheets (you download your own) and trail maps (provided at the hotel) will be used. South on Geyer for 1.2 miles to Kirkwood Park/Community Center, park behind pool.
